Christie VeinViewer Flex Technology Showcased For the First Time at 2014 EMS World Expo

The Only Real-Time HD Portable Vascular Access Imaging Device with Class B Rating

Publication Date: 11/10/2014

Nashville, Tenn. – (November 10, 2014) – Christie Medical Holdings, a global leader in mobile vein imaging systems, will exhibit for the first time its portable VeinViewer® Flex device for emergency medical services at the annual EMS World Expo November 11-13, in booth #651, in Nashville. The EMS expo, which offers education and learning to EMS personnel, is the largest EMS conference and tradeshow in North America, with over 300 exhibitors and 5, 000 attendees.

VeinViewer Flex, with its B Class rating, is ideal for use by EMS professionals on patients in their homes as well as in alternate care facilities, such as surgery and blood/plasma centers. Designed for durability and maximum portability, Flex can also be used in hospital departments such as the Emergency Department and NICU where space requirements and speed of assessment demand an ultra-portable and reliable vein finder.

With HD imaging and Df2 (Digital full field) technology, this small VeinViewer model is the brightest and only handheld vein illuminator that provides benefits for all patients during the entire Pre-, During- and Post- vascular access procedure, thereby improving the total vascular access procedure, not just the stick.

VeinViewer projects near-infrared light which is absorbed by blood and reflected by surrounding tissue. The information is captured, processed and projected digitally in real time directly onto the surface of the skin. It provides a real time accurate image of the patient's blood pattern. Its patented technology, using AVIN (Active Vascular Imaging Navigation), allows clinicians/EMS personnel to see patterns up to 15mm deep and clinically relevant veins up to 10mm. Clinicians can also see peripheral veins, bifurcations and valves and assess in real time the refill/flushing of veins.

“EMS personnel need to assess a patient’s situation and act quickly. VeinViewer Flex has been reported by users to increase first stick attempts and decrease intraosseous (IO) procedures up to 75 percent,” said Christie Product Manager Erin Shelton.

VeinViewer is the first and only device on the market to use: harmless near-infrared light, DLP® technologies, exclusive technology such as Active Vascular Imaging Navigation (AVIN) which has been shown by clinical studies to increase both first stick success and patient satisfaction up to 100 percent while reducing medically unnecessary PICC lines by over 30 percent. VeinViewer’s TrueView imaging accuracy in projected vein-widths is three to ten times more accurate than the competition. With its Df2 (digital full field) projection, VeinViewer is able to provide a real-time, HD image of vasculature directly onto the surface of the skin.
